Gaslands: The PIT Crew - Derby Lists

Welcome back to the PIT crew!

Last time, I covered some “race lists” for Gaslands. While racing is one part of the game, we all know the real fun is blowing stuff up! There's nothing quite as enjoyable as wrecking the other guy's car, right? Thankfully, there's several missions that require causing as much havoc as possible. Gentlemen, start your screaming!

Mishkin -
Vehicle:
Monster Truck – 25
Weapons:
Laser: Turret – 15
Oil Slick: Rear – 2
Perks:
Rocket Thrusters – 1
Loader – 2
Mobile Mechanic – 5

Crew Notes:
This list is a little out there, but fun to play. I mean, come on, it's a monster truck! Of course, you have only the one vehicle, so you have to keep it going. That's what Mobile Mechanic is for. The laser turret gives you the ability to target and destroy groups you can't run over. The oil slick should keep people off your back, which isn't where you want them. Since you have a fairly high gear to work with, you should be able to keep up with smaller, easily crushable enemies.

Warden -
Vehicle:
Heavy Truck – 25
Weapons:
Ram: Front – 4
Harpoon: Front – 2
Grenades (x2) – 2
Upgrades:
Tank Tracks – 4
Perks:
Fist Of Steel – 4
Murdertractor – 5
Boarding Party – 2

Crew Notes:
This is another very fun list to play. When I did the first version of this list, it quickly earned the nickname of “Murder Dozer.” It's all about crushing your foes and laughing. The one major problem you have is keeping up with other vehicles. However, you've got the harpoon to pull them closer. After the first turn or two, you're going to want to start hunting for vehicles that have Wiped Out or taken a Spin. Or anything else that's moving as slow as you are. But, you can slow enemies down with your grenades and that harpoon. If you can catch them, you're going to wreck them. Or push them out of the way.

Idris -
Vehicle:
Car – 12
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Ram: Front – 4
Vehicle:
Buggy – 5
Weapons:
Machinegun: Front – 2
Upgrade:
Nitro – 3
Vehicle:
Buggy – 5
Weapons:
Machinegun: Front – 2
Upgrade:
Nitro – 3
Vehicle:
Buggy – 5
Weapons:
Machinegun: Front – 2
Upgrade:
Nitro – 3

Crew Notes:
I sometimes call this the “mayhem” list. Because you've got a bunch of fast, cheap cars which are going to explode pretty damn quick if you're not playing right. Or maybe that is the right way? Either way you want to play this list, you have to keep in mind that your vehicles aren't durable. They're fast. With the nitro, they're even faster. All you want to do is wear your enemies down with your guns and then drive away. Pray you don't get rammed or crushed.

Miyazaki -
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Mines: Rear – 1
Perks:
Powerslide – 5
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Mines: Rear – 1
Perks:
Powerslide – 5

Crew Notes:
This is a typical Miyazaki list, fast and furious. You're fast and maneuverable, as you should be, but you always have to worry about durability. You want to zip around and blast what you can. Since you're probably faster than anyone else on the board, you're going to have a strong advantage in getting in position to shoot and then run away. I feel that Miyazaki isn't the best at a stand up fight, so I usually make lists around mobility over heavy combat, which should explain why this list is so lightly armed.

Slime -
Vehicle:
Monster Truck – 25
Weapons:
Machinegun: Front – 2
Ram: Front – 4
Grenades – 1
Vehicle:
Buggy – 5
Machinegun: Front – 2
Molotovs – 1
Perk:
Hot Start – 1
Vehicle:
Buggy – 5
Machinegun: Front – 2
Molotovs – 1
Perk:
Hot Start – 1

Crew Notes:
This is one of the those lists where you get to do a little bit of everything. The monster truck crushes, the buggies zip around, and there's bullets and fire everywhere. It's simple, really. The nice thing is that use can use your buggies to herd enemies into the path of the monster truck, or do the reverse. Someone really doesn't want to be run over, so they zip out of the way... Right into the path of your buggy that activates next. Since many vehicles will survive being run over, you can then hit them with the molotovs and keep them hurting for a while.

Rutherford -
Vehicle:
Helicoper – 30
Rockets: Front – 4
Minigun: Sides – 6
Mines (x2): Rear – 2
Upgrades:
Armor Plating – 4
Perks:
Road Warrior – 2
Rapid Fire – 2

Crew Notes:
This is one of those “helicopter hunter” lists. If you don't have to worry about passing gates or picking up flags, you can just blast away at anything and everything that gets in range. While the miniguns are on the sides, this helps you as you can pivot easily with a helicopter. While you can't be rammed, you need that armor plating because every gun in the game is going to target you as soon as you show off what you can do. And since you can't be rammed, you can be right in the thick of things, blazing away.

Scarlett -
Vehicle:
Heavy Truck – 25
Weapons:
Flamethrower: Sides – 6
Machinegun: Front – 2
Molotovs (x3) – 3
Upgrades:
Extra Crew (x4) – 8
Perks:
Boarding Party – 2

Crew Notes:
This list really needs to played with a fire truck. You know you need to do this. Moving on, the list is designed to light things on fire and then ram them. Or ram them and then light them on fire. Up to you, really. Using the Heavy Truck means it's going to be slow moving, but not as slow as the Kill Dozer (see the Warden list above). Using Scarlett's Sponsor Perks, you can spend crew to reduce Hull Points and then gain crew when you start your activation in contact with another vehicle. If you keep this up, you can really reduce your enemies effectiveness. The heartiness of the Heavy Truck will keep you going for a good long time, so try to play the long game.

Patrol -
Perk:
Louder Siren – 2
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Upgrades:
Armor Plating – 4
Perks:
Hot Start – 1
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Upgrades:
Armor Plating – 4
Perks:
Hot Start – 1

Crew Notes:
While I prefer my “balanced” list (see the last PIT Crew), this one isn't bad either. With the armor on PCs, you're a little more hearty than most other fast lists. With Hot Start, you've got a good chance to starting in the “sweet spot” of Gears 3 and 4.

Gaslands: The PIT Crew - Race Lists

Welcome to a new series, this time all about Gaslands!

For this edition of the PIT Crew, I'm going to post up some “racing” lists for each of the sponsors, including Scarlett Annie and the Highway Patrol.
The goal of these lists isn't to win demolition derbies (although some of them could), but to win any sort of race with gates and the like. In short, they're built for speed, not killing.

Mishkin -
Vehicle:
Performance Car - 15
Weapons:
Arc Lightning Projector: Front – 6
Magnetic Jammer: Rear – 2

Vehicle:
Pickup Truck – 15
Weapons:
Thumper – 4
Machinegun: Front – 2
Molotovs – 1
Perks:
Mobile Maechanic – 5

Crew Notes:
This list follows the pattern you'll see in the rest of the lists. With this team, you put you PC up front and try to go fast. Get it up to Gear 4 or more as quickly as possibly, so you can save up your ammo for the ALP. Once you hit the first gate, if anyone is in front of you, hit them with it. If you're in the lead, use the Magnetic Jammer to lock out anyone with heavy weapons chasing after you.
The Pickup stays behind, moving slowly. Don't risk the Skid Dice, just get up using the Medium Straight as much as possible. This should leave you in the middle of a pack of cars. Which is exactly where you want to be. Once you hit the first gate, you unleash the Thumper, wreaking havoc and chaos. Your goal is to make the enemy slow down. And you keep blasting anyone coming up on your PC. With Mobile Mechanic, you have a chance to win, if all of the other fast vehicles have been wrecked or eliminated.
Your real weakness is that once people know what you're running with, you're going to have a big target on your back. Mishkin's weapons are devastating. If you have to, sideswipe and T-bone with your Pickup and use Slip Away on the PC to move as fast as possible.

Miyazaki – 50
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Minigun: Front – 6
Oil Slick – 2
Smoke – 1
Upgrades:
Armor Plating – 4
Perks:
Evasive – 5
Powerslide – 5
Restraint – 2
Expertise – 3
Big Tyres – 2
Slippery – 3
Moment of Glory – 2

Crew Notes:
This is putting all you eggs in one basket. But, it's the hell of a basket. This PC can handle just about any situation it comes against. With the armor plating, you can survive a little longer. To win, you want to hit that sweet spot of Gear 4 as fast as you can, then kick it into Gears 5 and 6 once you're ahead of the pack. Use the Smoke and Oil Slicks to prevent people from blasting or ramming you from behind. If anyone gets ahead of you, blasting them with the minigun will soften them up a bit.
Your real problem comes from Hazard Tokens. Rolling Skid Dice is always a gamble, but it's the only way to knock them down. So, roll them sparingly. If you have to slow down, you're in luck with Restraint.

Idris – 50
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Mines – 1
Upgrades:
Nitro x2 – 6
Perks:
Hot Start – 1
Time Extended – 3

Vehicle:
Drag Racer – 5
Weapons:
Ram: Front – 4
Perks:
Hot Start – 1

Vehicle:
Drag Racer – 5
Weapons:
Ram: Front – 4
Perks:
Hot Start – 1

Crew Notes:
This is a bit of a fun list. If you can't tell, your Drag Racers aren't there to win, they're there to blow things up by crashing into them. Since they'll explode when they run out of Hull Points, you want to keep them close to enemy vehicles. So, put them up front and make sure they're always near someone. If you want to be a real piece of work, make sure to take a Slide and block off the path so people have to ram you. Using Hot Gear and the rams, if you hit someone that isn't a Heavyweight vehicle, you're probably going to do some damage with a Smash Attack. On the off chance that the Drag Racers survive longer than a turn or two, they could possibly win the race. Unlikely, but possible. The best part, is that while everyone is worried about your Drag Racers, your PC can quickly take the lead. Just make sure to avoid any fights and keep gunning for the finish line. Hit the Nitro only when you really need to get ahead or when you're getting close to the finish line. Shoot when you have to and drop the mines only when you have someone so close they can't avoid.
Once again, Hazard Tokens are not your friend. But, if you time it right, you can use the Time Extended to keep them low when it matters.

Slime – 50
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Laser: Turret – 15

Vehicle:
Buggy – 5
Weapons:
Ram: Front – 4
Molotovs – 1

Vehicle:
Buggy – 5
Weapons:
Ram: Front – 4
Molotovs – 1

This list is based around the usual “leader and followers” pattern. You get your PC in front as quick as you can and use the Buggies to keep people off of you. The Buggies can use their Rams to get Hazard Tokens on other vehicles and then toss Molotovs to take them down. The Laser is there to hurt anyone that gets in your way. Or too close. Or just to cause some mayhem. Since Buggies can also haul ass, you can use them to win, too. In fact, a fun way to play is make it so people have to try to stop all three of your vehicles while they race forwards.
While fun, this list can lose do to bad rolls, more ranged combat lists, and poor terrain. So, play it smart. But, don't forget that your Buggies don't take damage from Flips...

Warden – 50
Vehicle:
Performance Car – 15
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Mines – 1
Upgrades:
Nitro – 6

Vehicle:
Car - 8*
Weapons:
Rockets: Front – 4
Upgrades:
Prison Car – 0

Vehicle:
Car - 8*
Weapons:
Rockets: Front – 4
Upgrades:
Prison Car – 0

Crew Notes:
Once again, you get that PC up front and race like hell. You use the Prison Cars to blast anything that gets too close to it. Hit the Nitro when you need it. If you're lucky and play it smart, you can win with your Prison Cars, too. Just don't count on it...

Rutherford – 50
Vehicle: Pickup Truck – 15
Weapons:
Heavy Machinegun: Turret – 12
Grenades – 1
Upgrades:
Tank Tracks – 4

Vehicle:
Jeep – 12
Weapons:
Rockets: Front – 4
Machinegun: Front – 2

Crew Notes:
Like just about every Rutherford list out there, this list is heavy on firepower. But, that doesn't mean that it's too slow. The Jeep is your fast mover, but can easily wreck anything in front of it once it hits the first Gate. The Pickup, while slow, can hit anything it can see. Using the Grenades, you can slow other vehicles down with Hazard Tokens. The best idea is probably keep these two together until you hit the first Gate. If anyone is also going slow, tear them apart. If everyone is far ahead, move that Jeep and blast them from behind, while your Pickup repositions to blast anyone heading for the finish line.
Your real disadvantage is speed. You're not nearly as fast as the other lists here, but you're more heavily armed. Blow up as much as you can as fast as you can.

Scarlett Annie (TX#2) – 50
Vehicle:
Motorhome – 25
Weapons:
Rockets: Front – 4
Heavy Machinegun: Front – 4
Grenades x2 – 6
Upgrades:
Nitro – 6
Extra Crew x3 – 6
Perks:
Delicate Touch – 3

Crew Notes:
This is another list of putting all your eggs in one basket, but you can steal other people's eggs. Using the Mobile Garage rule from the Motorhome, you can steal other Wrecks that will start stacking up. With the Grenades, you can make people make Flip Checks, which will wreck smaller cars. Since you have the crew to spare, you can probably get 2-3 other vehicles up and running. And winning.
The downside is that you're going to have go slow. Don't roll Skid Dice, use free Stick Shifts to go up in Gear until you hit Gear 3 or 4. You want to stay behind everyone, so you can snap up those wrecks.

Highway Patrol (TX#3) – 50
Perk: Louder Siren – 2
Vehicle:
Car – 12
Weapons:
Lazer: Front – 5
Mines – 1

Vehicle:
Car – 12
Weapons:
Machinegun: Front – 2
Mines – 1
Vehicle:
Car – 12
Weapons:
Machinegun: Front – 2
Mines – 1

Crew Notes:
This list is all about one thing: Board control. Using the Louder Siren, you can slow everyone down. Use free Stick Shifts to get up to the sweet spot of Gears 3 and 4. When you hit the first gate, start blasting away with the Machineguns, try to wear everyone down. Drop the Mines keep slower vehicles off your back. When you're driving, you're in charge. You have to remember that. When you pick the first Bogey, go for the fastest vehicle or the one that won Pole Position. Hammer away at it.
Your real disadvantage is keeping everything together. If you take too many risks, you can get screwed over really easily. A Slide or a Spin at the wrong time, much less a Wipe Out, can hurt you. So, play it cool and play it smart.

And that's all I have for this PIT Crew. What do you think of these lists? Do they look good or are they terrible? Let me know.

The Streets of Spinespur: 100 point lists, Dark Faith and GOD

Welcome to another installment of The Streets of SpineSpur!

This time, I'm taking a bit of time to talk about some introduction lists I like to play. I know some folks prefer to use a higher total in their games, but I really think 100 points is perfect for introducing people to SpineSpur. You only have a handful of models, not as many special rules to keep track of, and the games go faster. Mind you, I'm starting to find that I'd rather play 150 point games for fun, but that's a topic for another time.

To start off, let's look at the Dark Faith list:

Cardinal Anhelitus
Sisters (x2)
Torn (x3)
Thugs [Bludgeoning] (x2)
Thug [Molotov]

Central Character: Anhelitus
I picked this Cardinal over the others for a few reasons. First off all, he has Clouded which will keep him alive longer against Distance Attacks. Then there's Putrid, which means he'll hurt models that get in close. The Soul-Sucker ability also heals him a lot more than any of the other ones in the Agenda. His ability to boost Torn is cool and makes them even more deadly. The Weighted Chain can be used to slow enemies down by Toppling them. All in all, I've found him to be a good generalist Central Character.

Deployment:
For this list, I like to deploy in one particular way: Torn in front, providing Blocks to everything behind them and since they can survive a lot of damage with Undying, they'll make the enemy waste shots firing at them. Behind the Torn comes Anhelitus and the Sisters, trying to keep them in a group. Because the Sisters are immune to Putrid, they can benefit from his Clouded and also keep them alive. Lastly, I put the Thugs in the back, just outside of the Clouded/Putrid bubble.

General Tactics:
The goal of this list is to be a wave that advances on the enemy. With the Torn in front, you want to cast Virulence on one in the middle, providing Clouded protection to all of them as well adding the Putrid assistance. Since Torn don't move that fast, you'll be a bit slow but that does help you with Anhelitus maintaining Virulence. You use the Sisters and the Thugs for 'rapid response' to threats and flanking enemy models. While they aren't really great in a stand-up fight, they can help. If enemy models are trying to get up close, use the Thrown Blades from the Sisters to slow them down or wound them on the way in. Additionally, you can use the Molotov from your Thug to hit enemies that clump up.
As the game advances, you can use Anhelitus' Soul Tearing to cause some problems for the enemy Central Character or other annoying models. The fun thing about this spell is you can use it to prevent models from having Fear Tokens spent on them. If Anhelitus starts taking damage, try to make sure you've got a Thug or a Sister near him so he can Suck a Soul and gain six points of Health. Personally, I find it to be useful to do it to a Sister that's taken a few hits and is out of blades or the Molotov Thug after he's thrown it. If you're maintaining Virulence, he can also pick up some weapons to throw around at enemies.

Now, for the 'Mormons'... I mean GOD. Here's the list:

Aniel
Warriors (x2)
Fists (x2)

Central Character: Aniel
This guy is hands down my favorite character in the GOD line-up. I think he's better than Michael because you are almost guaranteed to get Round Controller due to Bullheaded. Tactician is AMAZING. No, look at it. Since you're always outnumbered by the enemy with GOD, the ability to make the them activate models until you're even can screw up their end game. Or, you can make them skip a turn while you get two turns in a row. Or, you can let a Warrior Lock-On and pop off two rounds. He's very useful in several situations. He also adds another Conciliator to the gun line and those things are nothing to sneeze at.

Deployment:
With such a small force, you have a lot of flexibility in deployment. You can clump up, keeping them in the Tactician bubble, or you can spread them out to give you more room to maneuver and deny the enemy area. I usually go for a gunline with Aniel in the middle and the Fists on the edges to engage melee enemies.

General Tactics:
Honestly, you've got a lot you can do. But, you have to think ahead and react to things as they happen. But, GOD has some things going for them. GOD is the best at long-range combat, flexibility, and teamwork. By keeping a gunline, you can bring down enemies on their way to you. The Fists can selectively switch between their modes, choosing between having Protect – 1 or doing more damage in melee, and if you use Aniel to give them an additional Half-Action, they can have that Protect up, switch modes, then do two melee combats in a turn. You can use them to screen your gunline, then charge forward and engage stuff you want to keep away. But, your Warriors aren't terrible in close combat, it's just not what you should be using them for.
One of the best things about this list is how cheap it is. For about $30, you can pick these guys up. Also, having a low model count is good for someone just starting out.

Now, both of these lists are Agenda build lists and it's kind of important. You see, without the Agenda bonus of the Dark Faith, Torn are almost useless. For GOD, the ability to spend a Fear Token instead of activating a model is extremely useful, especially in the later game, as you're going to have to earn those Tokens.
