About

Bearers Of The Word is a blog based around all kinds of traditional games; be it role playing games, collectible card games, miniature war games, or board games.
We seek to spread the word about these games, be they old or new, and bring new players into the fold.

Game Review Articles -
When reviewing games, I try to avoid problems by offering only part of the rules. If you enjoy what you read, please make sure to buy a copy.
There are several different articles reviewing the various types of games. They are as follows -

Blast From The Past:
Since a good percentage of my games are no longer in print, or are older editions, this provides me with a chance to discuss these older games. These reviews are usually kept short, as I want to give readers an overview, not the details of the game.

Let's Review:
For more modern games, I do a different style of review, looking more for if you should spend your money on it or not. Unlike the review style above, I go for a break down of what it is, the basics of how the game works, what the setting is, and if you should or shouldn't check it out.

Gone But Not Forgotten:
This series is focused on TCGs/CCGs, Card Games, and Board Games that are no longer in production. Originally designed for card games, I've decided to expand the focus to other things.

Setting Showcase:
As not every game comes with a setting, while some come with several, this series explores the rules and lore of settings for various games. Some settings, especially for older games, might not be in production anymore, but are fun to read about.

Horror Shows:
Normally, I try to find the silver linings on even the worst games I've come across. However, that isn't always possible. This series focuses on those things that I can't be fun or upbeat about, those thing that just don't work.

In-Depth:
When I do reviews, I tend to keep them short and to the point. Okay, I try not to ramble too much. This series, however, is when I take the time to really dig into a game and everything about it. I do an overview of the source books I find useful, provide my thoughts on playing characters and running the game, and some ideas on things to watch for inspiration. I select games for this series based on my experience with playing them, running them, or reading about them extensively.

Specific Game Articles -
Unlike reviews, the following series are about specific games that I play and like to discuss in further detail. These will include thoughts, reviews of source books, battle reports for the specific games, and ideas for missions I've come up with.

The Streets of SpineSpur:
While this game is no longer in production, I do have a ton of minis painted, several that need to be worked on, and everything I need to play the game. Even if the game isn't around anymore, that doesn't mean that I can't continue to enjoy playing and talking about it.

Repairing Roadkill:
Some years back, I came across a post apocalypse game called Roadkill, which had vampires, zombies, werewolves, motorcycles, and all the things near and dear to my heart. Since I like projects, I've been working on a series of articles that expand the rules, missions, and setting.

The PIT Crew:
This series is focused on Gaslands, my favorite little demolition derby minis game.In this series, I discuss the various sponsors, vehicles, and tactics for the game.

Building Silent Hill:
This series is all about my attempt to create a full RPG campaign based on the Silent Hill media. Using All Flesh Must Be Eaten to run the game, feel free to watch as I figure out the plot, mechanics, and all that good stuff for the game. If there's enough interest, I may release the final game in a series of PDFs.

Other Articles -
Unlike everything else, the following don't easily fit into the categories above.

Gaming Stories:
I've played a lot of games and run more than a few. When the mood strikes me, I type up what happened during the sessions. If I'm feeling it, I may keep up with my current games.

How To:
I've learn how to do a few things in my time and I've been trying to share some tips and tricks. Sadly, this one takes quite a bit of preparation and taking pictures, so I haven't been doing much with it lately. That may change in the future.

Battle Reports:
While some battle reports end up in their respective articles, not every game has one. Or had one originally. In this series, I record any miniatures games I play, and how they end up. If I remember, I even take pictures.

Painted Minis:
One part of playing minis games is having to paint them. Since I now have several hundred minis at this point, this series will probably end up being the longest run. Assuming I ever get back to working on this again.

Campaign Briefings:
This series is about ideas I have for the various games I've reviewed. These articles may vary in length, depending on the idea I have for the game.

Getting Started With:
Since there's a lot of games I enjoy and review, I thought it would be helpful to start talking about how you can start playing them, too. These will be follow ups to things I've reviewed but won't be a regular thing, due to the time it takes to do them and how few things I enjoy that are still going.
